This question is used by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Elections Canada, to update the National Register of Electors (maintained by Elections Canada).
If you are a Canadian citizen and answer Yes to this question, CRA will share your name, address, date of birth, and citizenship with Elections Canada. Elections Canada will place you on the voters’ list and, in the event of a federal election and referendum, you will automatically receive a voter information card telling you when and where to vote.
Your authorization is valid until you file your next return. Your information will only be used for purposes permitted under the Canada Elections Act, which include sharing the information with provincial/territorial election agencies, members of Parliament, and registered political parties, as well as candidates at election time.
