The Manitoba Advance Tuition Income Tax Rebate is a refundable tax credit that lets you claim a rebate on eligible tuition you paid. Eligible tuition fees are those for which you are entitled to claim the federal tuition amount. If you live in Manitoba and are studying at a post-secondary institution, you can claim a maximum credit of $500 per year after 2010 and a lifetime maximum of $5,000 under the advance tuition income tax rebate.
Note: Any amount claimed as an advance will reduce the tuition fee income tax rebate you may be entitled to claim after graduation.
You can still claim the Manitoba Advance Tuition Income Tax Rebate even if you transferred tuition amounts to a spouse, common-law partner, parent, grandparent, or your spouse’s or common-law partner’s parent or grandparent.
You can claim the Manitoba Advance Tuition Income Tax Rebate if:
- You were a resident of Manitoba on December 31; and
- You paid eligible tuition fees for the year.
H&R Block’s tax software automatically applies this credit to your return provided you entered a T2202-A slip.
