You will see the following warning message in H&R Block’s 2015 tax software if you have entered RRSP contributions but did not enter your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for the year:
You need to enter the RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for 2015 as you've entered RRSP contributions. You can only claim contributions up to the limit shown on the notice of assessment. [Warning]
To correct the error, enter your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for 2015 on the Contributions to RRSPs or any other retirement fund or account page under the RRSPS & INVESTMENT icon on the PREPARE tab.
When you arrive at the OPTIMIZATION page on the WRAP-UP tab, be sure to indicate that you wish to claim the RRSP amount entered on the Contributions to RRSPs or any other retirement fund or account page as a deduction:
You can find your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for 2015 on:
- Your latest Notice of Assessment or Reassessment (amount (A));
- Form T1028: Your RRSP information for 2015, that CRA sent to you after processing your latest income tax return;
- Tax Information Phone Service (TIPS) by calling 1-800-267-6999; or
- My Account, if you are registered for it.
You can only claim RRSP contributions made in the year up to your RRSP deduction limit for the year.
